At Roots, Rocks and Reptiles, we believe reptiles and invertebrates deserve the same level of care, respect, and compassion as any other animal. Unfortunately, many exotic pets are surrendered, neglected, improperly cared for, or abandoned due to misinformation, changing life circumstances, financial hardship, or simply because their care needs were underestimated.
Our rescue and rehabilitation efforts focus on providing these animals with proper care, appropriate environments, nutritional support, and the time needed to recover and stabilize. Whenever possible, animals are responsibly rehomed into carefully considered permanent homes. Others may remain long term as ambassador animals to help support future education and outreach efforts.
We also believe surrendering an animal when you can no longer properly care for it is not something to be ashamed of. Asking for help is often the most responsible and compassionate decision a keeper can make.
Roots, Rocks and Reptiles focuses on practical, welfare centered care built around the individual needs of each animal. Every rescue animal is different, and rehabilitation may involve correcting husbandry issues, improving nutrition and hydration, treating minor injuries, reducing stress, or simply allowing the animal time to stabilize in a safe environment.
We prioritize responsible, long term placement over quick rehoming whenever possible. Before adopting an animal, potential adopters should expect to have detailed conversations about species specific care requirements and provide proof of an appropriate enclosure setup. Questions are always encouraged, and education is considered an important part of the adoption process.
Many surrender situations begin with outdated care information, impulse purchases, or misunderstandings about the long term needs of exotic animals. By helping improve access to accurate husbandry information, we hope to support both the animals and the people caring for them.
Our goal is to place animals into safe, realistic, long term homes. Before adoption, potential adopters should expect to have detailed conversations about care requirements and provide proof of an appropriate enclosure setup.
Questions are always encouraged. Roots, Rocks and Reptiles believes education and support should continue beyond the adoption process, including during setup, transition periods, and long term care. We are also happy to help answer husbandry questions from keepers who did not adopt through us whenever possible.
We understand that life changes, emergencies happen, and sometimes an animal’s care needs become more than someone can realistically manage. Surrendering an animal when you can no longer properly care for it is often the most responsible and compassionate choice you can make.
Roots, Rocks and Reptiles aims to provide a judgment free environment focused on the wellbeing of both the animal and the keeper. Intake requests are reviewed based on available space, resources, species, and the needs of the animal.
